September 7th TreatSMA protests against NICE decision

On Friday 7th September TreatSMA and the community will stand alongside each other and hold a protest against the proposed decision to not recommend the life-saving drug Spinraza for treating children and adults.

The protests will be held in London and Manchester. The addresses for both protests are as follows:

  • Department of Health, 39 Victoria Street, London SW1H 0EU
  • NICE office, Manchester City Tower, Piccadilly, Manchester M1 4BT

Both protests will run at the same date and time at each venue.

Please can you arrive for 11.30am (coordinators will be there from 11am). Please protest outside the main entrance but ensure routes are not blocked to allow access to emergency services. Coordinators will remain at each site until there are no protesters left.

In London, we will request that Mr Matt Hancock, the Health Secretary, comes out to hear us.

Please make sure you bring clothing suitable for all weather types, T-shirts/jumpers with polite and appropriate slogans, a pack lunch with plenty of water and your placards.

On your placards please keep your messages polite and nothing political. This is so press will potentially use footage for the news and we also do not want to give any organisations reason to block our protest.

TreatSMA would like to stress that under no circumstances must people enter the premises. We must remain outside during the protest.

TreatSMA want to stress this is a peaceful, static protest. TreatSMA is not accountable for anyone who chooses to do otherwise.

Please can everyone encourage your friends and family to join you. Numbers are important to make maximum impact.

The 7th September is a day where the SMA community WILL be heard. This is our time and no is simply not an option.

Please send the following press release to your local press contacts:
